Nicci and Graham’s Starved Rock Engagement

May 16th, 2012

Nicci and I met years ago while I was working in Yellowstone National Park. We went hiking and backpacking every chance we got. Even after we were done working in Yellowstone we still met up to go backpacking in Glacier and Olympic National Park. So when Nicci and Graham decided it was time to get married they gave me a call. There was no way we were going to do their engagement in a city, it just didn’t make sense for them. So we found the next best thing in Illinois and Indiana to a national park and it turned out to be perfect!

I can’t wait to photograph their wedding in Indiana!

Meghan and Kenny | Jacob Henry Estate Wedding

May 3rd, 2012

Every wedding has something new and exciting and for my first wedding of 2012 I finally had the opportunity to photograph a winter wedding with real live snow! This is something I’ve always wanted to do, and there was just one thing I didn’t fully think about. It’s REALLY cold in January! I could not have felt any worse for Meghan and her brides maids it was absolutely freezing and they were running around in the snow without anything more than their dresses. Well that’s not completely true, between each shot we had them all back in winter coats warming up. The good news is that the photos turned out great! Natalie (my awesome second photographer) and I scouted out every single location with shovels to make sure there was a path and even big orange cones to make sure no one parked in our first look spot. I’m sure we looked crazy while setting it all up but it was definitely worth it!

A huge congratulations and thank you to Meghan and Kenny!

Vanessa and Pawel | Married in Chicago!

April 25th, 2012

I’m going to keep todays description short. I know I usually rant and rave about where we got to go, how we got there, and just how much fun it is! But today is different, and this wedding is definitely different.

I’ll just say this, Vanessa and Pawel’s wedding was so incredible that somebody took off their pants at the reception…

BEST WEDDING EVER

And then it happened, in the midst of the party pants started to come off

then this girl got super excited!

Emma and Jim’s Sunrise Engagement

April 24th, 2012

Emma and Jim and such an interesting combo. Emma has more degrees than I can count on my fingers, well maybe not that many but she has a ton! And Jim is kicking ass every week as a Fire Fighter. Maybe at first that doesn’t sound like a match but make no mistake they are perfect for each other and completely ridiculous! As soon as I asked them to get together for their first portrait they they were joking around with “ooooo” and  “awwww” making the whole thing so funny.

They are the first couple to ever take me up on a Sunrise engagement session, and I’ll tell you right now it was nearly as painful as you might imagine. If you ignore how how we met at 5:40am, it was about 39°, and really windy, it was absolutely perfect. We started out at the beach, ran into the North Pond area to escape the wind, and finished off the shoot by attempting to break into Finkl Steel. What we were really looking for was some molten metal in the background of some portraits but the workers wouldn’t let us that close. So we settled on some steaming pile of cooling steel.
